I. Need. To. Shop.

Saw this picture over on K.Beau's Tumblr and it kills me.....

I haven't been shopping. Like.... at all this summer and I want to die. I have seriously been to busy/poor/poor/poor to shop and it's taking a toll on me. I am so sick of my entire closet and I want to pull it all out and start fresh. Anyways.... Some things that make me die over at Urban Outfitters...:

My Work. My Life. Conflict of Interest?

Forgive me, Tory Burch, for I have sinned. When the weather changed I had to turn in my jeans and Nikes for (conservative) dresses and flats. Not that much cuter, but I'm not sweating like a beast any longer. The thing is... I really like my job. So much. I love it. It was my 1st year internship originally, then they hired me for the summer. I work with Homeless individuals and, even though I have an office, I spend most of the day in the field.
I have a client who I have had a lot of trouble finding lately, he has an apartment in Manhattan, but spends a lot of his time with his clique in the North East Bronx at the end of the 6 train.
My poor flats....
My co-workers leading the way before the "path" ends.
Today I came out with my 2 Favorite outreach workers, Jose and David to find him. I had a couple tips about where they were and wanted to check it out. Back in the day my client and his clique had a huge tent encampment deep in the woods, but they got cleaned out a while back. I told them that I had heard through the vine that the encampment was back, and that I'd seen a couple of them walking into the woods the day before.
I think my co-workers were a little skeptical because the Tents were a major deal back in the day. And here's the conflict of interest. Like could I be a bigger oxymoron. Here I am in a black cotton dress, Tory Burch flats, and accessories (including over sized sunglasses) walking into the woods with my two male co workers who are In jeans and boots. We pulled off of I-95 and at the light change people start honking their horn. Why? Because the cars are too busy rubber necking and have missed the light turning. Die.
We get into the woods...and I mean... There's a "path" but it's still pretty Outward Bound. The path stops but I like, I am high stepping in grass up to my waist, prob. flashing my underwear to anyone if they happened to look. I told Jose I'd seen my clients shopping cart (shopping carts are like cars to clients, and if you know your client, you know their cart) with a bag of charcoal in it. So, after I spot my clients cart and charcoal near by, I'm pretty much positive they are set back up in there again.
I mean.... its 9:30 am. Seriously.
The Tent!
More of the Encampment.
My clients cart.

And we did. The entire encampment was back! Hahaha I know nobody understands how exciting this was/probably are still confused as to how/why I do this job (especially if you know me personally...) But it was effing dope. I'm literally covered in big raised mosquito bites, and am cut from thorny vines but whatever....

Anyways, I wanted to share that because this is what I spend a lot of my time doing (working, not wandering in the woods in sundresses), and I don't write about it much, but I have had some requests to talk more about work (and by "some requests", I just mean K.Beau and Bex) So, I obliged.

I Haven't been to Target in ages and they are building one on E117th & the FDR and like.... I can't effing wait. As if Target in itself wasn't dope enough, they show some love Uptown and the 125th street inspired clothing items... I'm really diggin.

Alexander McQueen Eyewear.

I saw these posted over at The frisky and had to post them too. A little creepy, but genius none the less. I am still a fan over over-sized sunglasses (me and every other girl in the world) So I really like the Jackie-O lookin pair....

Jean Paul Gaultier for Target

AH! Jean Paul Gaultier is the next designer doing a line for Target. It's supposed to start selling on March 7th. Some of it is crazy and i didn't like the pictures from the lookbook, so I didn't include them, but that trench coat is divine at on $59.99. Both Leather Bombers run closer to $200.00, but still fresh. I like that Target has continued to up the ante with the Go International campaign. Luella Bartley was one of the first they had, I remember.... but pulling off Rodarte, Jovovich-Hawk, and now Jean Paul Gaultier..... I like it.

There are like, no Targets up here. They just put one one at 138th on the East side which is sort of easy to get to... and there is one up in the BX which is do-able. I may have to make a trip when this line comes out (or just chance it online...)

All Black Everything.

So clean! All Black Everything! I love seeing more and more of this blacked out look everywhere. Even on the radio:
"This is Roc Nation, Pledge your allegiance. Get y'all fatigues on.All black everything.Black cards, black cars, All black everything." -Run This Town, Jay-Z

"All black on, Black top shades, Black top Maybach.
I’ma rock this shit like fashion...." - Hard, Rihanna

So stylish and sophisticated... I think it takes the same amount of confidence to pull off the head-to-toe black as it does to wear bold colors and patterns.... it's daring and maybe a little out of the comfort zone, too. I love seeing it pulled off, freakin fresh to death and I am re-committed to my beloved monochromatic wardrobe picks.

What I'm wearing (what I wore) 08.28.09, 08.29.09 and mini-updater

I have been so excited to post my outfits! I have so much fun picking out clothes, shopping, dressing myself (and others). Even with my more or less strict cut, color, and shape preferences, I still think I try to step out of the box as much as possible. Hopefully posting my outfits will make me 1) not get stuck in the ruts I'm often in, where I will only wear the same outfit-different variation for a week straight, 2) force myself to be more creative and 3) share my fun (hopefully) NYC inspired outfit creations! Hopefully I can enlist E to take my pictures, but for now these makeshift mirror shots will have to do.

So, It rains every all the time here, but not like it rains in the south where it will dump down and then go away. Here it just dumps down. I wore the above outfit to just run so errands, open a bank account, hit up Duane Reed, etc.
Tank and Tee-- C&C
Cardigan-- H&M
Jeans--Seven for all Mankind
Flats-- Tory Burch.
It rained-but-stopped on Friday, so it was humid and cool, but like. hot. I just did errands, again. And then sat in Starbucks, people watching and reading articles off the manditory reading list for orientation ( yup. orientation reading list. way dope.)
Sweater--TwelvebyTweleve
Jeans-- Seven for All Mankind
Flats-- Tory Burch.

Tomorrow is the first day of Orientation for the School of Social Work, which is a 4 day long crash course, 1 part welcome to Columbia and 1 part-- how to be an excellent social worker. The dress code is business casual, so I am thinking slacks/tops/cardigans/flats combinations. On Thursday there is a 4 hour boose cruise riverboat tour of the city, so I wanna get a little spicy for that. Ha what an a-hole phase. Y'all know what I mean. Flashy and Fly in a business casual way.

In other clothing and life related news: I may or may not be attending a totally contrived and pre arranged "drinks" with a boy I met this week. If I decide to put on my big girl pants and not bail like a punk, I will be going on Tuesday.... but, knowing me, it's gona take a lot to get me to "drinks".... we'll see.

Night before the wedding dresses

So, I've decided to go with the first dress for the November Wedding (I'm pretty sure at least). I needed something for the friday night before both weddings. That will mean a night downtown in Charlotte and a night downtown in Raleigh. I am really liking both of these options as they are a little trendy, a little sexy, and still quite conservative. I don't usually like strapless dresses, but this one may be alright.
