Crazy Outfits

I've described my style pretty extensively I think. The one area I have yet to elaborate on is my weekend/night life clothing choices. In a few words. In general I wear black. I like the my hemlines shorter and my necklines higher. Sequins, beading, (not embezzling or a ton of glitter) I appreciate heels, boots, and tights. I like jackets/vest/blazers, belts, chunky necklaces, dark eyeliner, pink lips, oversized clutch. However, living in NC and going out predominately in Chapel Hill/Durham/ Raleigh, made it a little impossible for me to wear what I wanted without people saying "um that is a crazy outfit." Now, I'm not insecure, I like what I like... but I just can't really stand people sweating me, or my shit. So, that is a definite pro of moving to New York. I can wear all my crazy get ups, buy a lot of even crazier stuff and be as bad as I wanna be. I'm excited.

more pictures

kitchen bar-- stool side, sink side, cabinets, bottom of pantry

Pictures of the New York apartment.

The pictures are of the kitchen, pantry, and living room. We haven't hung any pictures yet (thats for tomorrow) Niether E nor I have touch our rooms yet, so those will come later. I also finished the bathroom yesterday, and will post those pictures a little later. Enjoy these, they are pretty barebones. I can't wait to get back and have the time to really complete it.

The journey to New York part 1

As predicted, there was gonna be some serious BS shenanigans going on for this trip. I knew it. So, Here we go. SM and I went out for Grace's birthday the Saturday night before. We planned to only stay out til 12. as usual, at 12 we were heading to another bar. We get all mixed up between Kashmir and Sullivans, and end up meeting Denny and Courtney for a drink at thee latter. We don't leave Raleigh til 1:30 or so. go fig. So I get home and pack/weep til 3am. I wake up at 6:30, take my last shower shower at home, and pack the last of it up. best-guy-friend Karl is coming over at 9 to pick up the Uhaul and drive me to Washington DC. BS-Senanigans #1: best-guy-friend-Karl is supposed to have his best friend Lucas help load the truck. For reasons way to irritating to explain, Lucas backs out. Awesome. Rude, thoughtless little pig. I start to freak. I am litterally driving, texting and calling at the same time. I am cash poor on a Sunday, looking for some loser willing to make a quick buck by loading my crap. The guy who cuts my parents grass (and who i've know since I'm 5) comes through in the clutch. He gets the car loaded up with Karl in 25 minutes. The only casualties of the pack were: my nightstand (broken), my bookshelf (left behind), and my big house plant (I still can't talk about it because I'll cry). Karl and I get on the road at 12:05. He doesn't follow my GPS at first and is U-turning all up in this bitch like we're in a sedan. but I digress. The ride was with no complaint. I organized my blackberry, screamed at Karl for texting-not-driving, and played a rousing game of F,M, or K. BS-Shenanigans #2: as we enter the city (all of 4 miles from E's apartment) we miss our turn and go down 17th street. Surprise! 17th street is a "no truck zone" so we see that sign... and see all the construction and our country asses assume they are talking about Mack trucks, dump trucks, idk, bulldozers.... We see a cop turn behind us and Karl and I joke about how much it sucks to hear those sirens come up behind you. 3 minutes later? Woop Woop Woop. we get pulled. not by the DC Metro cops but by the true life, no lie SECRET mugfug SERVICE. yup. blah blah blah it sucked, I was stressed, Karl was calm... but they give him a ticket for the moving violation, $75.00 and 2 points on his license. Sucks, but no biggie, right? Wrong. Karl already has an inappropriate amount of points on his license because of past bad behavior. So. Thats great. Karl, you're going to G-D jail.

We get to DC, our professional movers get everything in the truck and it's beautiful.
E, my mom and I go binge eat at our favorite mexican spot, go home, to sleep. All thats left in the apartment are 2 cots (which I brought from NC). So, somehow here I am with my no meat having hips or ass, sle
eping on hardwood floors. Somewhere at 5am I switch to the cot. We left
for NYC at 9:15 on Monday morning, and I'll have to continue the story a little later.

(pictures are of me pumping gas in the Uhaul in Dinwiddie, Va,
the effing price to fill up the truck, and 2 pictures of the back of the profe
ssional movers
truck, sunday
night (look at my pretty plant there in the bucket!)

Mini updater and recent purchases

It really is 3:21am, don't be deceived. We worked through the evening to finish up the living room, bathroom and kitchen. Everything is amazing so far. I absolutely love the apartment and all of our things are wonderful. E and I will worry about our rooms tomorrow and Thursday. Tomorrow our cable and internet will be installed. However, I'm picking up some sweet ass wireless from someone else, so I'm pretty sure we're gonna cancel the internet and just keep renegading it. More importantly, our air conditioner is being installed tomorrow. It is hellishly hot in NYC and in the apt. We brought 2 fans with us, luckily and they have held up down more or less the past couple days, but this AC is going to change my life. Alright, tomorrow I will publish a more legit post tomorrow, with pictures of the apartment thus far. this is some stuff I ordered for our spot today. A hook for our keys, 2 runners for the hallways, these cute branch looking hooks to hold the curtains back, and the jewelry organizer for E's room. All found here.

Moving Day.

Well, It's 7:45am and I am moving TODAY. Scary. I have butterflies in my stomach mainly because this is my first big move. My mom flew up to DC yesterday, my buddy Karl and I are picking up the Uhaul at 9:30am, loading it up and driving to DC. This afternoon our professional movers are loading up, and we leave for NYC at 9am, Monday morning. I'm over the phrase "it's bittersweet, really" What does that mean? Like, bittersweet chocolate is effing nasty so I'm gonna go ahead and boycott that little saying. The truth? It is what it is. I am very sad when I think about not living here in Durham anymore, but I am thrilled about New York. Obviously I'm not going to change my mind and not go to grad school, so I think this is one of those situations where you've got to suck it up, be alright with feeling a little sad, and roll with it.

In other news: While our power will be turned on when we get there, TWC doesn't come until Wednesday, so unless some selfless person has their wireless connection unlocked, I'll be Internet-less (gasp!) for a couple days. However, knowing how my family, and especially because this moving trip is just the girls, I'm sure there Will be plenty of debacles to share.

And on a slightly more sentimental note: I really have had the best times living in Durham. I say that specifically because I said goodbye to Raleigh after graduation, and for this last year, I feel like I really adopted south-western Bull City as home. Last night before Sarah and I left for Grace's birthday party in Raleigh it hit me; "this is the last time we will get ready and ride out from my house." And while I'm not huge on tears, in theory, I could have shed a couple-- and I have a funny feeling that I just might today when Karl and I pull off.

I want: shoe edition

My style has been pretty consistent through out my life. I don't know, I'm not the type who has all these "this is who I am"revelations at different stages in my life. So I am excited to see how my style will manifest itself in New York.
I like to layer, which is a positive for living in the North. I am a big fan of button down shirts, cardigans, corduroy pants, and plain tees. Because I am also a minimalist, I like my detail to come in the form of, ribbons, lace, pretty buttons, details (like cut outs or stitching). Also, I seem to stick with neutrals, but as of late have found myself buying jewel toned things which I love.
I absolutely love my Chocolate brown Uggs, and really want them in black. When I was in NYC in June, it rained so hard and all I kept thinking was "note to self: get some tall rain boots" I really like this pair. The black boots and the snakeskin Tory Burch flats are obvious wants. I hope to add these to my collection, ASAP.

Things for the apartment

Here are a few of the things i've recently ordered to have shipped to my apartment. I loved both rugs, E and I thought it would be nice to have some consistent decor through the apartment, so we've got the same rugs, and we have streamlined the curtains. I have ordered the set of frames because I plan to use them to make a headboard of sorts, as opposed to a fully structured bed. I sure hope everything turns out as I'd like it.... Rugs and frames are found here

Apartment Ideas: E's Room

So my sister's room at our apartment is a bit smaller than mine. It is a perfect square shape with a nice window, but no closet. She's already pretty comfortable with being creative with space, as she has been living in an amazingly decorated and utilized studio in DC for the past year. I have been thinking of different ways to maximize space and function of her room and have found some really neat stuff. I am a complete minimalist when it comes to most things, and so decorating our beautiful pre-war apartment will be interesting. I saw this clothing rack at Bed Bath and Beyond and liked the idea of an exposed closet, as opposed to a dresser. Like me, she's more inclined to hang her things. So that may take care of the closet. The other needs were: Bed, desk, Storage. I saw the model room on sweethomestyle, and loved it. After digging around I found some pretty neat versions of this. My favorite was the wooden bed with the drawers, shelves and desk. I love that it only takes up the floor space that a bed would, but in addition you'd get all the storage and functions of 4 pieces of furniture. Another plus is that it's not so high up off the ground, so after removing the guardrail, I think it makes for a pretty awesome space saver.

Am I seriously going to start having meltdowns?

Headed down south to the land of the pines I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline Starin' up the road And pray to God I see headlights. I made it down the coast in seventeen hours. Pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers, And I'm a hopin for Raleigh, I can see my baby tonight.
It's 3:27am. I've been home from the bar for 27 minutes. I'm here getting all awkward and sentimental, wandering around my apartment, listening to Old Crow Medicine Show's Wagon Wheel. I've liked this song for a while, but tonight, they are making me homesick.

To make matters worse, months ago I watched The Wackness when it came to me on Netflix. Seeing it then made me super meltdown-tastic. Well, of course, I come home and guess what? It's on.

So.... it's 3am. I'm listening to Wagon Wheel, Watching The Wackness and laughing at myself cry over a place I'm homesick for--- but I haven't even left yet.

freaking lame.

My new full time job.

This is pretty much how my day goes. Pack box, label it, stack it. It's a little OCD, and probably totally retarded using the file boxes, but it make sense. This Right now I just have the bare minimum in the kitchen, and nothing in my office. Packing my clothes is gonna be a terror... I'll begin that mind-eff tomorrow.

SFP: A cautionary tale, in Pictures. Part 1

Prevention of SFP's is is very similar to what is taught in Sex Ed. The only TRUE way to stay SFP-safe is to abstain.

Let's be real. Abstinence only education doesn't work. So. here are some different forms of protection:

Do not take bombs.

a)

Do not take shots.

b)

Figgin do not drink malt liquor.

What the eff, get off the luge.

I'm sorry I partied 101. The Basics

The first time I was ever Sorry For Partying was also the first night I ever got torn up drunk. It was the last day of school, 10th grade, 2001. My 2 best mates and I came up with an elaborate lie in order to ensure that we we're going to make it to this keg party at Jordan lake. What did or did not happen that night is still open to interpretation/open for debate. The next morning waking up, covered in mud, soaked in beer, and after having slept in a Chevy Cavalier parked in a church parking lot, it hit me. Hazy memory, on puke-mode, dirty, uncomfortable, confused "what the eff is my life" feeling. It's more than a hangover, more than "dude I was shithoused last night" This is true SFP.

Let me clarify. Every night I go out doesn't qualify as a Sorry For Partying. There is a certain level of debauch redic-ness that must occur both the night of and the morning after. By no means am I an expert, but I will say, that my field training is extensive and well documented (thanks to facebook and a blackberry). While it's not exactly scientific, I think I've got the qualifiers more or less tacked down.

The night of can usually be measured based on your answer to these questions:

  1. What is my mindset tonight?
  2. How early am I going to start, and when will I stop?
  3. The type of drinks do I plan to face tonight?
  4. How much/What am I going to eat?
  5. Where I am going tonight?
The morning after can be measured by asking yourself these follow-up questions.

  1. Where am I?
  2. Am I still wearing last nights clothes?
  3. did I wash face/brush teeth/take out contacts?
  4. How severe is my hangover?
  5. Am I injured at all?
  6. Do I know how I got home?

Additionally, some of these sure fire signs aren't questions, but more evidence. Some examples include:
  • You end your night going home with/ bringing someone back with you whom you just met that night or only know from the scene.
  • You lose your phone or get your phone wet
  • Any item of your clothing is soiled, ripped, or ruined
  • You puke before bed.
  • You wake up to puke.
  • You wake up in puke.

If you meet any of these, then congrats. You're Sorry You Partied.

The Packing begins....

My Kitchen Table is gone, and has now become the place where I am stacking box after box. More pictures to come. Days until Move: 11

Personal Style.

I skimp when buying: I love White tees, but stick to Hanes of Fruit of the Loom.

I splurge when buying: Jeans, I love Sevens and James jeans.

I always break this fashion rule: My Mother and Aunt JoJo tease me, saying I'm the only person they know who wears after-five attire during the 9-5 hours. It's true, I wear evening clothing during the day, often.

I never break this fashion rule: I don't break the obvious ones, about like light washed jeans and white tennis shoes... but everything else is whatever.

Most cherished item: Black Macbook and Blackberry

Guilty pleasure: My uggs.

Describe your personal style: classics, conservative, after-five, clean cut,

I feel best wearing: summer: shift dress, belted, sandals, oversized glasses

winter:slim legged jeans, flats, tank, tee, cardigan, oversized glasses,

Personal style quirk: I wear the same vintage Bakelite bangles every day. One is coral and the other, mustard yellow. Before the Bakelite they were 2 brown vintage bangles from Argentina.

Most underrated item: The tank under the tee. it makes all the difference.

Never caught wearing: in public: sweat pants, tee-shirts, or hoodies

When I was in high school I wore: I pretty much had the same style then as I do now. I think my usual outfit consisted of a button down oxford or polo. Jeans, or a mini skirt. Accessories: trade the bakelite for sterling bracelet with my initials, and the Tiffs beans for pearls.

Favorite fashion magazine: W. I've been an avid reader since High School. I couldn't subscribe to anything but Teen vogue, so I'd buy the W at Barnes and Noble, until I got to college.

Favorite other magazine: Marie Claire. I used to love Jane, until if folded, and Nylon, until it got cool.

Perfume: french connection, fcuk her

I will miss these.

I'm still awake only because when the thunderstorm started I thought "... is this my last one like this?" I love a thunderstorm, especially in the summer, and I don't know how they perform in New York, but here they are stellar.

So I stood on my porch (where my patio furniture used to be) and enjoyed it.

So, North Carolina? 1 point; for superior summer light shows.

  3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually, or emotionally?: spiritually: excitement, independence. emotionally: eye contact, organic connection
  4. What turns you off creatively, spiritually or emotionally? creatively: when I feel like my personal styling/preferences are being swagger jacked. spiritually: legalism, rules, mean-spiritedness. emotionally: bad listeners, liars.
  5. What sound or noise do you love? the way the south sounds at night, in the summer.
  6. What sound or noise do you hate? babies crying when they are in a place babies shouldn't be (in the shops past 7pm, at adult restaurants)

TFLN. Part 1

I think TFLN is probably one of the best websites right now. It kicks FML's sorry ass b/c FML is sometimes a little retarded and like... obv these people are liars. Whatever. I added TFLN to my google reader, which is also on my blackberry, so when I'm bored I"ll scroll them. Over the past little while now I'll send in text I get from RSJ or parts of BBM convos with SM. I never really thought to check to see if they were there though, because I never visit the actual website. I happened to go to it from my Blackberry and saw where you could search area codes... so I check mine and SM's. I didn't see our exact texts, it was more like out text wearing a disguise.

(919): What are we going to do tonight?

(704): What we try to do every night. Take over the world

I can't remember this one, explicitly..... However, this (919), (704) duo post a lot... curious how they even share our area codes. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is SM and myself.

(704): I got so high last night I started crying because i couldn't stop thinking about how scary space is

Interesting. This did happen.... only I, (919), was drunk. And I text it to SM, (704). And yes. Even sober I still think Space is very scary.

(704): Wearing these hooker shoes was a mistake

This did happen. We were out at this bar in Raleigh and SM wore these cute little menswear inspired magenta pumps. Only they were made for sitting, not standing and dancing in a bar. She has never worn them again, which is unfortunate.

Stay tuned for part 2 as the story develops.

So much for being an original.

I had to change my name on twitter... which sucks because coming up with new user names and such is really hard. I tried "Sesh" it was taken. I tried variations of my first middle and last name, initials, whatever. All available but I wasn't really feelin them.

So I tried just my own name. and it was taken. If my name was Kelly, Mary, Anne, Jenny... it would be whatever... but it's not. it's an original, or so I thought.

This girl stole my name. And like.... I don't get why! Clearly other people can have my name. There are like a million people in Ghana who have my first name as their surname, but thats in Ghana. This girl in in Maryland.

This is Sesh, from Australia. You, sir, stole my effing nickname. It doesn't make any sense to be selfish about a name, but for 23 years I enjoyed being the one and only (that I knew) this "seshie" in MD and this "Sesh" in Australia.... mark busters.

What the Hell.

My body clock is still set for 6:20am, despite all of my efforts to push it back, most mornings I wake up, then, when I realize the time, I am pissed. What exactly am I in a hurry to do all day? worry about my future? Well, it's 7:13am and this is the cause of my triple-a today.

I wake up to 3 emails on my blackberry. 1 from a guy: " Saw your patio furniture listing, am interested. Is it still available" -- Kosh. I respond back.

The second email. Subject: " Info Needed contacted back."
The third email. Subject: "Needing more info on ad. forsale."

this is the message contained in both:

Saw your ad, hope you don't mind that I wanted to share what happened
to me with you. I'm a very down to earth person and am always looking
to help people out for the better.

It is a tough time we live in with the poor economy and rising
unemployement rates. I was in a very tough situation like a lot of
other people until I came across this spassets.co.cc. They paid my
loans off in full and are helping me get through these rough patches
until I can find a job. I highly recommend you check it, it could
change your life around...

Um... I guess thats a little fucking alarming. Like I read both emails and then immediately panic. I'm googling Spassets.co.cc. I am digging through my yahoo account trying to figure out what the fuck they are talking about.

So I respond back to them saying that I'm doing research for an article because I am a writer... because ALL i can think is "I am going to jail. fuckkk." all this panic and I wasn't even sure what the hell i'd done in the first place.

I forward an email to SM and am literally shaking as I send it. Afterwards, however, it hits me. I am being retarded. So I google the hidden craigslist email to which these 2 douchebags responded to.

this is what came up. Its me alright. Me and my patio furniture. I posted that shit yesterday because I DO NEED TO SELL IT. I DON'T HAVE A FUCKING PORCH IN NEW YORK.

So imagine me, 6:48am confused as hell. I go to the little spasets.co.cc website. This is what popped up. get out of Debt?!

Why is this happening to me? I am seriously too fucking busy with trying to get my life together. Waking up at 6:20 and having e-mail thugs bang bang bang bangin on my Craigslist post is annoying. No, I am not in any damn debt. If I was, stranger 1 and stranger 2, I do not need your little 2 cents on how to get out of said debt. Did I mention that the emails came at 4:49am and 5:01am? So these to assholes were in cahoots. The truth is the emails scared me! They were all out of context, made no sense and read like a flyer the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses. I don't need my "life turned around." Damn. didn't know it was so wrong that I'm trying to get my hussle on.
