Summer is over.... Today is my first day of classes... and last year of my MSW program. Lots of conflicting feelings. I miss my job in the Bronx already, and I am not ready to give up my happy hours in exchange for office hours. I guess it's just another transition.... Still need to recap the summer, and preview the fall.
More posts soon....!

My God Son, Cooper.
I FINALLY got to see my god son, Cooper after many months away. And, I must say... I am reconsidering my position on pet ownership. Like.... I don't really like animals like that. I appreciate them, and I get other peoples' obsession with their pets, but that's not really my thang. Cooper became my god son the old-fashioned way (mainly, I just decided he was and his momma, SM, agreed.). We spent a lot of the early days together (I'll call them, Cooper: brand new), back when he was sniffin crotches, buckin on other dogs, and knocking over children and women. I heard all about him when I was away, (during Cooper: Man on the run.) When he got locked up for 2 weeks for takin down some old lady when her yappy dog tried to step to Coops. So, seeing Cooper now, (lets call him Cooper: Mellow Man) He's just chillin, no barks, no bites, just a lot of love. Look how happy he was to see me in this picture! ( I took the snap too late to catch his winning smile)
Anyways, a few things have changed. I'm not longer anti-pet dogs (happy?? K.beau??) and, I bow down to the pet-parenting skills of SM. For a while I agreed with her grandpa Clyde when he was like "leave cooper in the woods" hahahaha but now I'm glad she'll have him in NoLa.

What I wore: Vegas.

That's me, SM and RSJ in Vegas. I don't have many pictures from the trip, but I'll post the others as soon as I'm back to New York. I love these 3 pictures of us. Each night we went out our individual style was obvious, and our personalities are too! But we still make the best of friends and I'm so glad we've remained close after college.

Long Lost Christmas Card.
I am finally getting room cleaned and organized after realizing that the growing clutter and chaos was making me miserable. I am shuffling through old mail and found some unopened mail. It came after I'd left for home but while my family was still in New York. This christmas card from Grace and her son was in the pile and it just made my day!

Re-visiting the Resolutions of 2009.
Obviously it's 2010. Super crazy how it's a new year and a new decade...
I pulled out my old journal (can't really say diary because I'm not 11) and I flipped through to look at my last resolutions from the end of 2008 to 2009.
an excerpt, if you will:
This is hilarious to me. Reading back over this stuff is a trip because of how different things are now. Reviewing the resolves of 2009, I feel like I hit all those goals. I stayed out of relationships that caused me irritation and stress (save for a couple of unavoidable hiccups....). I DID finish my graduate applications, and ended up exactly where I thought I didn't want to be. The irony is that this is the absolute best place in the world for me. ever. As for the fitness. well, I'm about 20 lbs lighter than I was a year ago, so that's cool.... but I'd definitely will keep fitness on my list of 2010 resolutions, which I'll post as well.

an excerpt, if you will:
" I broke up with [douche bag boyfriend] last Monday. Meh. best thing I could I have ever done. I am especially justified and relinquishing any guilty feelings because of how he behaved at the Tire Bowl. Fucking dick head. Now he's another name on the "never-going-to-speak-to-ever-again" list. cest la vie.
So now I've figured out my focus for 2009. a) I am not dating anyone. I'm not doing anything with any body. I don't even want to 'talk' to anyone. I really don't have anything to gain from any of the boys I know, and I have no desire to meet any other loser who lives in a 30 mile radius. so. I'll be single, which I love so that's that. b) I just need to buckle down and figure out my Grad School apps. Like, I need to finish them. I already decided not to apply to NYU or Columbia, I freaking don't want to go to New York and, lets be honest, I don't wanna waste the money applying to an Ivy. ECU is where I really wanna go, so I need to stop bullshitting and do it. Also, I need to get my fitness together. I'm too young to get all sloppy. So. you know, that's 3. 1) no more boys (for no more drama) 2) work towards my life plan so I won't end up a loser 3) don't be fat."

Back at Home, and impromptu High School reunion...
I am really enjoying being in NC! So nice. Just me and my old pal Bud Light watching music videos and Degrassi The Next Generation. I'm at home totally regressing. Haha. I LOVE watching videos, haha and the channel MTV hits is the shit, but they don't have it in NY for some freak reason. Degrassi comes on Friday at 8pm I think, and I am never there to watch it, so somehow there are 7 episodes on demand to watch--and I eating it up.
Tonight I'm going to Bex house for her annual friday-after-thanksgiving party. She's the only local who hasn't left CH and doesn't live with her parents, so her house is pretty choice. I'm a little blah about going tonight. Like Bex is my buddy and some of the other girls who will be there I'm still cool with, but honestly? I sorta haven't tried to keep in touch with anyone from HS. It's like, at the time when I was running track and stuff, my team mates became my best friends, but 4 years of college and now 2 more years tacked on has made that gap between us seem enormous. I'm curious to see how it will all play out tonight. I mean, it's not like anything ended badly, but I was a little surprised when I was looking through my phone and realized that I don't even have 4 of my old friends phone numbers in my phone anymore. I don't think I've changed at all... And I just hope we all get together tonight and it's like no time has passed between us all. So we'll see. I'm excited to reminisce none the less.

But will you RIDE?
Life moves very quickly. This time last year I just dumped one absolute retard, in hopes of dating another, working 40 hours a week, living in Durham, and barely working on my graduate applications. Jumping back to where I am now--- while the only real changes have been location (as I work more that 40 hours now, and am still in the same dating shenanigans as I was before, gah.) I am so happy for the few constants I have in my life-- and one of those are my friends.
Every girl doesn't get to have ride-or-die girl friends. Allow me to define for those of you who didn't listen to The Lox in middle school.
Ride-or-Die: the kind of girl friend that's going to hold you the eff down. regardless of the situation. She'll tell you when you're right... and also when your ass is wrong. She will tell you if your outfit is skanky, or if you look a little thick with it--- and she's also the first to tell you how fly you really are.
She'll tell you the stuff you don't want to hear: like you're boyfriend isn't good enough for you, or that you need to stop sloming on the weekends. She'll also tell you when to get your head out of your ass when it's a good guy you're trying to game.
She'll spend a whole hangover sunday with you, watching The Game or Girlfriends on BET (hahahah SM and Morgs).
She takes your phone call after hours, and would skip work or school for you. She has your back when you don't have your own. She'll dislike someone for no reason other than the fact that they hurt her home girl. When your family isn't on the same page, your R-or-D friend is.
and. a true ride-or-die best girl friend will fight.
hahaha this made my laugh out loud because this reminds me of my relationship with SM, RSJ all my girls at CUSSW and at NCSU.
I remember a night out in Atlanta with SM and RSJ. We arrived to a local bar and these chicks were muggin and it was pretty clear that SM (the usual instigator) was going to mug back. Indeed, she did. Me and another girl (read: not ride or die) was there, and RSJ was at the other side of the bar.
I see SM getting ready to Knuck and promptly tell her that of course, I'll hold her down. SM and I look to "the other girl" and asked her, very simply:
Another night, at Olivia's going away party in Raleigh. Some freakin fail of a guy was talking reckless to Charlotte.... and before we knew it. This table of 9 real smart class girls flipped the damn script. Everyone (except the always, even, enigmatic, RSJ who calmly reminded us "if you guys ignore him, he'll stop" hahahaha ) starts to literally rip this guy to shreds. SM, myself, Charlotte, Penny, Hannah B, and maybe a couple others somehow continue this shit this guy started. Proceed to get him thrown out and people were telling us how sorry they were for HIS behavior. (in hindsight.... I imagine we were way worse than him....but fuck it. you mess with one, you mess with all...)
Now, while I don't think fighting a la "Bad Girls Club" is anything to aspire to, I do completely understand that mentality. I love it when I BBM Morgs or K.Beau and am like "Ya'll I'm about to die, x,y,& z is happening." the first question is always "...do we need to squad up?" or, if you're Morgs ".... bitch I might be..." haha this shit makes me laugh now.
Thing is, it seems it's better to have a tight knit circle of girls who would hold you down regardless, as opposed to standing there looking to your left when it goes down because you don't have anybody to clique up with.

Miss you too, G.
I was checking my all-but-abandoned Tumblr today and came across this. As confusing as everything in life can get, one of the constants I can rely on are my good friends. I'm so ready to go home and see everyone.... I can't wait!

Flashback: Going Away Party
CD just sent me the pictures from my going away party back in August. I laughed so hard looking through them-- what an insane SFP type of night.

I took them off!
This will seem pretty silly to most of you, but, after a long chat with my new banker friend, and a couple days to think about it... I took my bracelets off (!!) Most likely only my old friends will know how big of a deal that is (ask SM to tell you the story about the time I fell coming out of the bathroom in the PBP basement and my brown bangle broke.... whew.) The thing is, I don't plan to replace them. I'm just gonna go sans bracelets for a while. It's a strange feeling sort of, not gonna lie!

Soundtrack to my life-- Billboard.com
My good friend, who we'll call Akili, had this awesome post on her blog, where she was able to plug in particular dates and billboard.com would tell her what to song was on her soundtrack of he life at the time. So, duh I had to do it too. Here we go:
I burst out laughing when I saw that my most memorable kiss (which occured on july 4th 2002) was Hot in Herre. I remember that song being the jam that summer and watching TRL so I could watch the video every afternoon. As far as the kiss-- it occurred when I snuck out of my house and went downtown with the kid I had a crush on all of Freshman year. I"m pretty sure he was my first kiss-- yea, he was. And I know I kept my gum in hahaha which is hilarious to me now, and I only share that info because it's funny. But I distinctly remember taking my gum out and saving the blue wad on my index finger. oh to be 16 again.I Got a Feeling is probably the most appropriate song on my little soundtrack. First of all, I'm not sure when I became such a top 40-whore, but I really like this Black Eyed Peas song. The first time I heard it I was driving back late night from some day trip and for some reason it made me cry. I am chalking the tears up to the fact that I was still anticipating my move. Every time I heard it after that I was so pumped, even when SM would switch the station in the car, I'd turn it back like, " bisshh, this is my jam." THEN at my going away party, CD was like " this song totally reminds me of you!" But it was only because of how the guy said "Do it" --- he talks just like me.
So, there you have it. Hot in Herre is my make out song, and I am a top- 40 junkie.
thanks, Akili for the dope post!

I will miss these.
I'm still awake only because when the thunderstorm started I thought "... is this my last one like this?" I love a thunderstorm, especially in the summer, and I don't know how they perform in New York, but here they are stellar.
So I stood on my porch (where my patio furniture used to be) and enjoyed it.
So, North Carolina? 1 point; for superior summer light shows.
