Soundtrack to My Life: Pursuit of Happiness.

Ya'll I'm back. I wasn't even sure if this return would happen because my job is crazy right now and I'm doing 12 hour days and getting 5 hours of sleep--- but this is honestly the best time of my life.

I'll hit ya'll with the updater later on, but I was actually inspired to return to SitC (you like that abbrev, don't you?) Because of my boo, Kid Cudi. It's no secret I like him, his music, his whole steez. So, tonight I was checking his blog out and he had posted this amazing cover of his song (any one from my current top 10) Pursuit of Happiness.

People Told Me Slow My Roll I’m Screaming Out Fuck Thaat
Imma Do Just What I Want Lookin’ Ahead No Turnin’ Back
The lyrics..... I die for you, Cudi. Just. Die.

This girl is called Lissie. I don't know anything else about her, except I need to see her. live.

And, you should check out the original. The song is the illest, the video is dope, & MGMT and Ratatat are on the track so, you know....

Break-Up Playlist.

So I am more or less going through a "break-up." Even though I have a sneaky suspicion that my "Banker" is going to be like Carrie's "Big"... as of right now, he's a little bit of a "Berger" (So many "b's" so many SATC references!) . I've been goin in on my i-tunes the past couple days and here is the playlist:

Alicia Keys-- Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart (duh)
Lil Wayne-- Something You Forgot
Lauryn Hill-- Ex-Factor
Trina--Single Again
Lady Gaga-- Bad Romance
Imogen Heap-- Hide and Seek
BoysIIMen-- Water Runs Dry
Rihanna-- Russian Roulette
Lil Kim--Big Mama Thang
The Cranberries--Everything I Said
Lady Gaga-- Paper Gangster
Good Charlotte-- Michelle Branch-- Good bye to you
I Don't Want to be in Love
Third Eye Blind-- Motorcycle Drive By
Ciara-- Never Ever
Black Eyed Peas-- Meet Me Halfway
Drake-- Brand New
All American-Rejects-- This Ends Tonight
Cassie-- Official Girl
Death Cab for Cutie-- The Ice is Getting Thinner
Snow Patrol-- You Could be Happy
Evanescence-- Call Me When You're Sober
Kanye West-- See You in My Nightmares
Chrisette Michelle-- Epiphany
Colin Hay-- I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You
Nelly Furtado-- Say it Right
Trina--So Fresh
Damien Rice-- Volcano
Lady Gaga--- Brown Eyes
Beyonce-- Like a Boy

This play list is a good mix of emo and boss bitch. What do you y'all listen to in times like these? I def want to add to the list!

Glitter in the Air.

This is Pink performing 'Glitter in the Air' at the Grammys. Never mind the obvious talent she has to be able to sing while doing the acrobatics.... this song is amazing. I'm so obsessed with it right now. I cannot stop playing it. like this is worse than my Alicia Keys OD earlier in the year.

Yall. I have some insane shit to share, and I am honoring requests (Akili, I got your tweets) .... I'll get to typing, promise.

Soundtrack to my life--New York City

I start field placement tomorrow and, based on my talk with my supervisor, I am very very nervous and scared. I know I'm capable, but none the less--- its terrifying. The Banker is a typical boy and Sunday is dedicated to football of any variety. I spend my Sundays getting my life on track, but today it was more of a day to calm all of my nerves and prepare for field. Well, he must have felt my anxious energy on Saturday because this was in my inbox this morning:

Subject: There's nothing you can't do...

Body: Now you're in New york...

--- and the Jay-z song "Empire State of Mind" was an attachment.

The chorus
"Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
Theres nothing you can’t do,
Now you’re in New York,
these streets will make you feel brand new,
big lights will inspire you,
lets here it for New York, New York, New York"

I've been listening to it pretty much on repeat, and it's on my "Harlem/Bronx/Brooklyn/Manhattan" playlist. It's an amazing song about an amazing city, sent from a pretty swell guy, haha.

Soundtrack to my life-- Billboard.com

My good friend, who we'll call Akili, had this awesome post on her blog, where she was able to plug in particular dates and billboard.com would tell her what to song was on her soundtrack of he life at the time. So, duh I had to do it too. Here we go:

I burst out laughing when I saw that my most memorable kiss (which occured on july 4th 2002) was Hot in Herre. I remember that song being the jam that summer and watching TRL so I could watch the video every afternoon. As far as the kiss-- it occurred when I snuck out of my house and went downtown with the kid I had a crush on all of Freshman year. I"m pretty sure he was my first kiss-- yea, he was. And I know I kept my gum in hahaha which is hilarious to me now, and I only share that info because it's funny. But I distinctly remember taking my gum out and saving the blue wad on my index finger. oh to be 16 again.

I Got a Feeling is probably the most appropriate song on my little soundtrack. First of all, I'm not sure when I became such a top 40-whore, but I really like this Black Eyed Peas song. The first time I heard it I was driving back late night from some day trip and for some reason it made me cry. I am chalking the tears up to the fact that I was still anticipating my move. Every time I heard it after that I was so pumped, even when SM would switch the station in the car, I'd turn it back like, " bisshh, this is my jam." THEN at my going away party, CD was like " this song totally reminds me of you!" But it was only because of how the guy said "Do it" --- he talks just like me.

So, there you have it. Hot in Herre is my make out song, and I am a top- 40 junkie.

thanks, Akili for the dope post!

Soundtracks of my life-- New York volume

Like most people with itunes and an ipod, I care about music. I'm a bog fan of the appropriate playlist for events, the right song for the car ride, the perfect track for "the moments" You can as SM or anyone who has had the pleasure of a car ride with me. I listen to most songs for 15-30 seconds and skip the the next track. I'll listen to an entire song if it fits certain criteria (which I'll have to divulge at a later date, can't dump too much neurosis in one post) Anyways, I am working on that playlist for this period of time in New York. One song on heavy rotation right now is Hot Child in the City- Pat Benatar. I'm getting super obsessed with it, and like can't stop quoting it.

1) I am hot (sweatiness wise)
2) I am hot (obviously.)
3) who doesn't like Pat B?
4) come one. It's Pat.

The lyrics break down:

Danger in the shape of somethin'
wild
Stranger dressed in black, she's a
hungry child
No one knows who she is or what
her name is
I don't know where she came from
or what her game is

duh. I always wear black. I will soon look hungry because I'm too poor to eat and I walk every where. No one can say my name and so far everyone here thinks I'm a local.

(Hot child in the city)
(Runnin' wild and lookin' pretty)
(Hot child in the city)

So young to be loose and on her
own
Young boys, they all want to take
her home
She goes downtown, the boys all
stop and stare
When she goes downtown, she walks
like she just don't care, care

No explanation needed.

(Hot child in the city)
(Runnin' wild and lookin' pretty)
Yeah
(Hot child in the city)

Come on down to my place, baby
We'll talk about love
Come on down to my place, woman
We'll make love!

This verse is curious. Not sure like--- what it's supposed to be about

Hot child in the city
(Hot child in the city)
She's kinda dangerous
(Hot child in the city)
Young child
(Runnin' wild and lookin' pretty)
Young child, runnin' wild
(Hot child in the city)

So. There you have it. This song is begging for five star status, and soon it will be rewarded.
