Shotgun Friday.

Ladies & Gentlemen, they don't get much classier than this. Bud Light (so right) and a bathtub. The only person I knew who could take a shot gun to the face with all guts was RSJ... until Tommy and K.Beau, on probably the most boring Friday Night ever, decide to go in. I'm a huge 'gine and can't shoot for shit, but I was proud of these two! (And secretly hope to master it before the summer is over....) Can someone please remind me that I'm not in undergrad anymore?

Where you at?

Oh Heyyyy. There's SM and RSJ. There's SM and RSJ and "me." There's SM grabbing my invisible right tit b/c she's grabby like that. Besides the obvious.... I'm missing. And there is the theme of my blog this summer: Where the fuck you at, SeshInTheCity? Where the fuck you at?

From the way my blog looks, I'm dead. From the way my posts look, I'm miserable. But The truth is, my summer has been the shit so far and like.... this is New York (and Brooklyn, and Baltimore, and Jersey....) and I'm 24 and I am like.....in the prime of my life, so I've sucked at posting lately.

The plan: I'm gonna start posting again. And I wanna post all of the stuff from June because there were some sick ass weekends in there... so there will be some past and some present, and the usual fashion/music/other mess that I like to throw in there from time to time. So like.... if any one still reads this (preesh) I'm gonna post so much you're sick of me. So. What upppp I'm back.

Vegas: In 5 Pictures.

5 Pictures... because there are only like 12 (and that includes 2 of me eating lunchables at 5:00am)

What I wore: Vegas.

That's me, SM and RSJ in Vegas. I don't have many pictures from the trip, but I'll post the others as soon as I'm back to New York. I love these 3 pictures of us. Each night we went out our individual style was obvious, and our personalities are too! But we still make the best of friends and I'm so glad we've remained close after college.

Emails Files: Vegas Packing List.

Friday I am Vegas bound along with my 2 besties, SM and RSJ. We haven't all been together since November, which is kind of inappropriate. As is customary, before we go on a trip together, a packing list is mailed out so that you know, we're prepared. Usually what happens is that RSJ is always prepared with everything she needs (including all her toiletrees in this perfect pink carry-all. Duh. She's the responsible one. SM always manages to fit so much in to her bags or suitcases. Unfortunately it's always full of.... everything random. My favorite: the time we went to Asheville and all she had was various scarves. No tops. And me? I don't know what kind of packer I am... but I usually pack things I have no intention of wearing, and end up shopping for something else. Hence the need for the packing lists. I started the list and SM (who is an impeccable list maker) cleaned it up. The things in quotes were from my original list. She didn't really keep much of it, hahahaha. So, here it is. Are we missing anything?

Ok, let me refine Sesh's list she sent earlier for packing -- the weather looks like its going to be pretty warm!

Dresses for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night -- and maybe Monday -- like cocktail, flashy and fly (bring 4, or if you're me and indecisive, more)
Heels for every occasion -- "fucking tall HEELS"
Outfits for daytime -- sundresses, skirts, tops, etc etc -- 3 of those (Sat, Sun, Mon)
PJs
Hangover clothes for breakfast -- may also be pjs haha
"condoms, you sluts."
all meds/birth control + advil/tylenol
bathing suits.... for hangin by the pool and stuff
bathing suit cover + flipflops for the pool
light jacket for layering just in case
a pair or two of tights just in case it gets a little chilly at night
leggings..? (maybe just for me -- I bought some snakeskin ones I HAVE to wear!)
daytime shoes -- flats, sandals
panties/thongs -- bras/strapless?
contacts/contact solution (Sesh)
bobbypins/hair ties
fucking GLITTER (jk on that one haha)
cell phone
clutches for night
iPod -- and our rooms should have an iHome player in the room (according the website)
mini-bottles for the plane
daytime purse/bag
Sunglasses
flat iron, blow dryer
shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, razor, tweezers, hairspray (packed in your checked bag)
jewelery/whatever accessories
cell charger
camera
camera charger
laptop and moleskin (Sesh'll bring)
PHOTO ID!
debit card, cash, credit card (i feel like we're gonna need all 3 on this one...but it will be worth it.)

Vegas or Bust.

Tomorrow is March 1st. I seriously cannot believe it. My spring semester ends on April 3oth and I will have 4 glorious months off school (granted, I'll be working those months, but whatever, it will be summer in New York!)

Before I rush to the excitement of summer, I gotta make it through midterms. That's what stands between me and my Spring Break which will be spent, in part, in Vegas with my wonderful dolls, SM ans RSJ.

My to do list is uncomfortably long and my motivation is freakishly low. Not a good combination... So I am suspending my going-out privileges until Vegas. Every moment I have free is going to be dedicated to getting all this shit done so I can enjoy SB2010!

In case you care: Vegas 2/12-3/16
No. Carolina: 3/16-3/21

You're not 19 anymore.

I've been thinking a lot about growing up lately. I suppose its because that's where I am in life now. My friends are getting married, others are in grad school, you know, grown up stuff. Sure, 23 is close to 19 than it is to 30, but the shit you could do at 19 does not work anymore.

Today's example: at 23 years old I have a real respect for breakfast. It must be eaten to function.

In my youth breakfast was reserved for hangovers, weekends, and special occasions. I regularly went through my high school day on nothing but the slushie I got at wilco when I skipped spanish. And I'd eat lunch of course, but at like 2:00. That is some young girl behavior. I was thinking of the many convos I've had with RSJ and SM about the old days. Effortlessly thinner, and we still went to the gym all the time. I remember undergraduate days of skipping dinner to drink all night, or how we'd eat late night on the reg (like that's even acceptable.)
I'm def. To old for that mess now.

Now, if I don't eat everything breaks down. Can't think, can't work, bitchassness, the whole deal. Its so not worth it.

What I've learned now is that breakfast is where its at. That's a picture of my typical 5:30am meal. Sure, it looks like a meal for a 3rd grader, but I'm on a break from Special K red berries, and Fruit Loops are my second fav. I haven't mastered the art of 3-square meals and I still eat too much junk, but I'm workin on it.... All in due time I suppose.

Homesickness?

So I know I haven't updated in a minute, and that sucks. It's mainly because,
a) I don't have anything new to say. ya'll know I am broke, you know I need to shop, you know I need to decorate, you know I like a boy.
b) my schedule is so whack right now. Like, I'm still not sure what it is that I'm doing in New York. The School if Social Work is effing amazing, they are starting us off very slowly because in a week my whole life is will be played when I am running around the Bronx 3 times a week with my clients and trying to balance a social life (which CUSSW promotes) and my school work. I guess I should relish in this slow start and all the down time....

The other side of it is this weird thing that is happening to me from time to time. When I left home I literally thought I was going to die at the airport. SM and RSJ took E and I and me (a complete non-crier) absolutely could not lock it up. However, by the time we got to our gate I was more or less cleaned up. When I got to New York the first week I was shocked that I wasn't melting down left and right. Everything was SO confusing, couldn't figure out how to get anywhere, or where to even go. It was hot, I was over walking, etc, etc. That passed too.

The thing is there are times I find myself the most homesick. It has happened 3 times here so far and it happens directly after something uncomfortable and unhappy happens here. Example: E and I got into our first fight about 10 days in (surprised we made it that long??) By the time the evening came around and I got on the phone with my dad all I could do was revert back to the 11 year old girl of yester-year-- unable to process anything, so I went crying to Daddy "I just want to come home." Luckily Frank is a no nonsense type and the "Seshie, I can't understand you if you choose to cry instead of speak" will always snap me out of it. I suspect it's that phrase that is the underlying motivator for my insistence on maintaining emotional control.... but I digress.

Truth is, North Carolina has grown to represent a lot more than my hometown, college town and where all my friends are. It's more of a creature comfort. So much that during my first "fight" with the banker I BBM SM (who was in Charlotte) and instead of initially explaining what was wrong or asking advice I just type to her "SM, I want to come home" and that like SOS, 911, ASAP code for "old girl isn't doing to good"

So, while it may seem that I am in heaven-on-earth for a 23 year old (which, I am) There are still times it sucks. The real test for me will be knowing that I can't run home and hid out on my parents couch like I could in college. It's going to be looking whatever the discomfort is, as there will be MANY more (esp. when it gets cold here), right in the face, putting on big girl pants and kicking ass.

Goodbye NC.

I'm here in the city! E and I flew out this morning and were happy in our apartment 2 hours later. we're having a very slow and lazy Sunday, mainly we made ramen and ate trail mix. E napped while I spent 3 hours trying to set up our wireless. It's up and running (thanks to all the amazing mac users who posted the how-to's for a linksys router....) So we've got internet! As of right now I'm feeling fine, surprisingly. I've had a string of emotional goodbyes, starting on Thursday with Beck and then Friday night at my good luck party. Luckily I was so SFP that I don't really remember how bummed I was. Saturday sucked because my mom and dad left for vacation, then I had goodbye dinner with DW&CD, after which I was super sad. We then went to Raleigh for Liv's goodbye parts (she's moving to New Zealand.) The icing on the cake was having SM and RSJ take me to the airport this morning. Train-wreck. I'm not big on tears, but this week I was OK with it. I feel grateful for the wonderful friends I have, and am so happy to have spent these last nights with so many amazing girls.

On an even more sentimental note--
I seriously feel like the luckiest person in the world. My friends are flat out awesome. I can't really explain what I mean, except that I'm going to miss everyone so much. I know that like, this is the best place for me to be right now. So all my sadness will be fleeting, I'm sure.

OK, thats the end of the obligatory goodbye post.

My Beef with girls: Life Lessons from White Oleander.

This post has been a work in progress over the weeks. It started after a particular wall post I go from a girl who isn't even my friend, many talks with various friends, watching E! news, and reflecting a bit on my own relationship style in the past and what that means for me currently and in the future.

A little sidebar. Here are some emotions you should not feel while reading this: a) personal attack. get real. I'm not talking to any to or about anyone specifically, but rather a type. It just so happens that a lot of girls are this type. oh well. If for some reason you get that deja vu feeling that we've had this conversation before.... we probably have. So you're not surprised-- ergo, you're not upset. If you are upset, be upset with yourself, not me haha. b) bad for me. The most wasteful thing in the world is pitying someone else. I do it more than I like to, and I absolutely hate someone feeling sorry for me. Please. Thats where this post originated from. Some girl who's phone number isn't even in my cell, deciding to feel bad for me. c) any other emotion, really. You guys know me. I'm consistent with my opinions. More than that, I'm really not mean. take it with a grain of salt, I'm part way joking, but mostly it's written with a serious tone--- with a slight undertone of a joke. real slight. Almost not even there.

I remember reading this book back in high school, excellent read--- but this post isn't about the book.
I was this post on that tumblr I love, and nearly flipped this morning. I finally felt like I could take this post out of the "drafts" a post it.

There is a part in the book where the main character is visiting her mother (who is in jail) and she give her this little pearl of advice:

Don’t attach yourself to anyone who shows you the least bit of attention because you’re lonely. Loneliness is the human condition. No one is ever going to fill that space, the best you can do is know yourself, know what you want.

....and the people say, AMEN. JM&J! This is one of the most true statements I have ever heard. I don't fully understand what makes girls behave as they do, and I suppose that is the beauty of individuality, however, the type of girl this quote describes is the complete opposite of girl I think of myself to be. So, imagine my growing frustration/confusion with this kind of girls. Some famous examples?
Jessica Simpson. Marrys Nick Lachey. Leaves him, has a string of boyfriends who she smothers (Tony Romo, John Mayer) and in between her break ups processed to gain obvious "I hate myself because I'm single again" weight and is seen in all of the tabloids looking unhappy, sour, and pathetic. Where is her career? Example 2: Lindsey Lohan. Dates Samantha Ronson. She becomes a giant clinger, at all of Ronson's DJ-ing gigs, runs around in leggings and see through tank tops-- no bra. Loses more and more weight so she and Rosons can be twins, with Lohan in said leggings and Ronson is skinny jeans and giant tennis shoes. They break up, Lindsey embarrasses herself on her twitter and every other possible public venue. Restraining orders, more drunken coked up debacles... and all the while, she still can't work because she gave up her life and compromised herself for her relationship.
More?? Amy Winehouse (talented as hell, dates and marries "blake incarcerated" and is hooked on black tar heroin, crack rocks, booze. Is a dirty toothless, scab covered skeleton with a nappy weave and no career.) Usher (in this situation, he is the stupid bitch. not his soon to be ex wife. had a legit career, gets caught up with this old lady who is his stylist. Fires his mom, marries said old lady, gets her preg. TWICE. she has secret plastic surgery in another country and almost dies--- and now they are divorcing. And where, pray tell, is his career??) Jennifer Anniston (lost BRAD PITT to Angelina. That is awful. Please have the dignity to pick yourself up and stop dating people and being dumped over and over. and stop being Rachel from friends please, thanks.), Jennifer Lopez (takes another woman's husband-- and he is a loser, and her career is a joke because she only does his lame ass projects and he isn't relevant and neither is she.) I could go on and on, and unfortunately I could add to this list the majority of my friends.
I'm on no high horse, trust me. I've been this girl before involved in this type of BS shenanigans, letting my self worth and value in life be defined by the guy I'm with. That never goes well. I'd never do it again, and, I honestly feel bad for others who are in this situations. Mainly for the ones who don't know it-- actually, it could possibly be worse for girls/guys who DO know it (but thats a life lesson for another rainy day).

I had this conversation with a good friend, MO'C. She and I are cut from the same cloth. Nice girls, lots of girl friends, blah blah blah-- oh, and don't forget: the made-of-steel walls up guarding ourselves, specifically our hearts. Like myself, MO'C understands a fundamental truth about life. You only have yourself at the end of the day. Why would you lay down and become a doormat, on on-call ego stroke for some guy? Why would you be seen out with someone who is embarrassing/annoying/rude/degrading/insulting/ugly/ immature/cheats on you/boring/ignorant/out of shape/poorly dressed/poorly groomed/disrespectful/ doesn't like your friends/your friends don't like him/cheap/lazy/non committal/blurred family boundaries? If you want to feel like shit, treat yourself life shit. If you're lonely, go out in public, If you "just want someone there" go jump off a bridge. Girls who use relationships as the two feet they stand on make me angry. What does that say about girls who don't? is there something wrong with being single and self sufficient? This brings me to this: written on my wall some months ago.
What is that? Why is that 1)something you're concerned with, girl-I-wasn't-even-friends-with-in-high school? 2) why is it on my WALL? are you on Crack. do you not understand that if I didn't have a blackberry I wouldn't have seen that message for days because Who really uses the computer version of Facebook anymore, AMIRITE? (I am obsessed with that little mash-up phrase now!) Honestly, that wallposting alone was the starting point for my whole what the eff, girls feelings that I've been having. I swear.

Another friend who is the epitome of standing on her own two is RSJ. One thing I hate is when someone asks your advice, does the opposite, then runs back to you, wanting help cleaning up the mess. with RSJ its the complete opposite. This is usually how it goes:

RSJ: I'm thinking of doing [insert activity that may or may not be a good idea]
Me: ... I don't know, RSJ... this is probably a shitty idea because of x,y,z
RSJ: [later] well, I decided to do _______. It was a bad idea, dammit.

And we move on.
Accountability and commonsense goes a long way.

To round out this life-lesson/rant: I actually don't really care what anyone does with any guy or girl. At the end of the day, it isn't my problem or concern. What does sadden/enrage me is watching my friends go through life and have no clue of their own self worth or personal value. These are the kinds of girls who become women, married to the wrong guy-- the one she settled for. Popping out babies and living a shitty life where they continue to lose themselves in a guy.... But it doesn't really matter, because they didn't take the time to find out who they were in the first place.
Ok, Cyber hugs to you all. End Of Rant.

The Trifecta.

I'm moving for good in 11 days. So, feeling as sappy as I am I went through my computer and facebook, and has the best time looking at all the old pictures of my 2 best mates, SM and RSJ. We've got 5 years of friendship all saved in photos, and I am so happy to know my girls. They are right at the top of things making it hard to leave. Alright. Enough feelings and emotions talk. Suffice to say, I love my girls. these pictures make me laugh and amost cry. I know we're going to have many more good times, but I hate that I'm going to be so far away from them. Thank god for gmail, blackberry, bbm and texting. Amirite?!
