Holiday 2010.

OMG. Un. Real. Finals are over and I can be a regular person (until Jan 3rd).

For those who care: I'll be in NC from the 22-2. And I have MANY people I MUST see. (GRACE. BECKY. this is a must). I'm looking forward to coming on home for a bit, and driving a car, and staying up late, and not walking. haha. The holidays are always great, and I'm really into the R&R.

Questions: What good TV shows have I most likely missed (prime time) and should catch up on?
Any good movies I should netflix?
Good book for the holiday reading list?
I need someone to help me re-engage in the real world!

NC to NYC transplants.

The other week I went to a Chiddy Bang concert in Brooklyn. Excellent Show, freakin fun night, but that's not the point, What was so super awesome was when this girl rolls in.
Um. YAY. BKE finally made her way North and is taking up residence in Brooklyn. It was def. one of those funny moments because my memories of bke are all Raleigh, Pi Phi related, but it was bad ass to see her in New York and obviously we plan to rendezvous again, asap.

You Miss Me, Don't You?

Oh hey.... Yea I fell off the earth after finals... In my defense I don't even know if I've been home more that 3 nights since then. But.... I am returning to good ole NC tomorrow and have a shitload of stuff to post, and stories, and other mess. So, if you still check to see if I update.... I do. And I'm gonna be better! Promise!

Favorite Married Friends.

So, I have been wanting to post about my Favorite Married Friends DW&CDW for a while... but every time I start one it turns in to a fucking creepy tribute like they are dead and being immortalized on my blog. They aren't dead and like... I didn't like how I was writing about them so I kept deleting them. However, today after having the BBM chat (thats listed below) with CDW i thought, "this is the kinda DW&CDW shennanigans thats gonna earn them a label in SeshintheCity. (I don't know if yall knew... but like, being a "label" is a HUGE deal... so.... #justsayin... kidding. sort of.)

A little back story: The-Artist-Formerly-Known-As-CD married DW in November and became CDW. and I am only mildly obsessed with them. For them to be married and young and not annoying and corny and fucking whack and never go out or do anything fun is awesome. Like, I have had some of my hardest rages in life with those two. Also, like... DW is sort of a wild man, and CDW is a wild chick, but in a low-key way, so they are a perfect balance. And I appreciate that because I hate people who get married (or really who get into relationships for that matter) and turn into douche bag losers, up each others cracks all day. Whoa, I just got on an unintended mini rant, but I guess that's just a reflection of how much they don't suck??

But, I digress. Anyways... my little chat with CDW just made me miss my favorite married friends and NC as a whole.

Back to my studies.... *dead*

Artist of the Moment: K.O Kid.

Duh. I'm biased.

Y'all. I am the proudest sister ever. My brother Kenneth has had two shows and has excellent turn out. Now, he already told me that he was working on his first mix tape (Don't we *love* the title?)  But,  Yesterday he called to tell me so freakin awesome news:

But It wasn't real til I saw it here

That's Right. K.O Kid is the 2nd act! (Randomly I also know the other two performers very well--- townies).

Unfortunately, I can't go to this show... It's a Thursday night and I can't swing it. But... if you haven't yet go check out this lil talent!

This is How I'm Living.

Y'all. I didn't have SHEETS on my bed for the past couple of nights. School has been kicking me in the face since the month started and after turning in 3 major papers today I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have a written exam tomorrow from 9am-12pm and then a case presentation at my internship, Friday Morning and then I am FREE. The piles of school work have been replaced with the things I'm trying to pack for VEGAS and CHAPEL HILL. I so freakin over school right now, this break could not have come soon enough.

Vegas or Bust.

Tomorrow is March 1st. I seriously cannot believe it. My spring semester ends on April 3oth and I will have 4 glorious months off school (granted, I'll be working those months, but whatever, it will be summer in New York!)

Before I rush to the excitement of summer, I gotta make it through midterms. That's what stands between me and my Spring Break which will be spent, in part, in Vegas with my wonderful dolls, SM ans RSJ.

My to do list is uncomfortably long and my motivation is freakishly low. Not a good combination... So I am suspending my going-out privileges until Vegas. Every moment I have free is going to be dedicated to getting all this shit done so I can enjoy SB2010!

In case you care: Vegas 2/12-3/16
No. Carolina: 3/16-3/21

Back at Home, and impromptu High School reunion...

I am really enjoying being in NC! So nice. Just me and my old pal Bud Light watching music videos and Degrassi The Next Generation. I'm at home totally regressing. Haha. I LOVE watching videos, haha and the channel MTV hits is the shit, but they don't have it in NY for some freak reason. Degrassi comes on Friday at 8pm I think, and I am never there to watch it, so somehow there are 7 episodes on demand to watch--and I eating it up.

Tonight I'm going to Bex house for her annual friday-after-thanksgiving party. She's the only local who hasn't left CH and doesn't live with her parents, so her house is pretty choice. I'm a little blah about going tonight. Like Bex is my buddy and some of the other girls who will be there I'm still cool with, but honestly? I sorta haven't tried to keep in touch with anyone from HS. It's like, at the time when I was running track and stuff, my team mates became my best friends, but 4 years of college and now 2 more years tacked on has made that gap between us seem enormous. I'm curious to see how it will all play out tonight. I mean, it's not like anything ended badly, but I was a little surprised when I was looking through my phone and realized that I don't even have 4 of my old friends phone numbers in my phone anymore. I don't think I've changed at all... And I just hope we all get together tonight and it's like no time has passed between us all. So we'll see. I'm excited to reminisce none the less.

The Long and Winding Road: Fails and Victories.

Ya'll I am just trying to get home for thanksgiving. That plan just got its balls chopped off after a series of unfortunate events:

Go catch the M60 bus at 7:00pm. It was supposed to take 40min, getting me to LGA a good hour before my flight, 8:45pm. Right?

Fail#1 M60 didn't come at 7:00. It came at 7:22pm
Fail#2 the bus was creepin over some M-Fin bridge. Pulls up to LGA at 8:30pm
Fail#3 I run to counter, and the guy promptly plays my face on some "girrlll you ain't gettin on THAT plane" and I'm all "diva bitch, don't make this worse than it is."
Victory#1 Some Boss Bitch pipes in that my flights delayed and that I CAN get on it. Ballin
Fail#4 so hungry, but I decide on chex mix because I was plannin to Eat Like A BEAST when I got home.
Fail#5 I get on plane. Pass out. Wake up and, Oh! Hey Girl! We haven't moved. Fuck.
Fail#6 we depart at 10:10pm. I was supposed to board in Philly at 10:15pm.
Fail#7 watching my flight to RDU pull off. Without me on it.
Victory#2 they put us up me up in some hotel, new flight at the crack of ass o'clock in the morning.
Fail#8 I walked into the hotel at 12:02am. The bar and grille closed at 12:00am. Hence my Raisinets dinner.

Despite it all, I am SO ready to be where my family is. Tomorrow can't come soon enough.

Who Will Stop the Rain?

It's been raining on and off since Friday. That's a lot of rain seeing as today is Wednesday. Now, in general I don't have a problem with rain. I always feel bad for the plants and animals when it doesn't rain.... but now, I just feel bad for myself, haha. New York sorta sucks when it's raining because it's still sort or gross. Like mud on stuff, wet seats, wet trash. just wet. Not to be a debbie downer, I still adore it here and, I mean, each place has there thing... at home sometimes it so hot and humid I remember feeling like there was no way to even go to my car. Anyways, things are very hectic for me, as I'm sure they are for everyone else, but I have some posts drafted and I work on them from time to time, so look forward to that. I'm got some stories... hahaha.

Oh, and let me let you in on a secret. I'm sorta short, but only because I have short legs. the drawbacks? I look like a little kid splashing around in the insanely tall rain boots. The benefits? I regularly buy shirts in an XL, belt them and, ta-da! it's a tunic (or a dress in the summer and I'm skankin.) I had to exchange some impulse buys at Old Navy and had a lil somethin to burn. I saw the white shirt I'm wearing today on the sale rack for $6.00. In my real size it was a cute long blouse for like, over jeans, but with leggings, sorry, you need to cover your booty (unless you're a model or somehow have overcome the overwhelming "i'm naked!" feeling you get when you first try out leggings-for-pants). So this shirt in an XL made for the perfect booty curtain!

Just thought I'd drop that lil life lesson on ya, keep the knowledge flowin. hahaha.

Headin down South, to the land of the Pine...

I am going to North Carolina this weekend! I am honestly so excited. I haven't spent this much time away from Frank and Cynthia since like, 2005. My cousin is getting married in Charlotte on Saturday, so I'm flying in to RDU Friday AM, driving down to Charlotte and will back in the triangle on Sunday AM, flying out at 4:00 that afternoon. I'm extra excited because SM's grandparents live in Charlotte and RSJ is like 2 hours away, so they are going to meet me in Charlotte for a little mini catching up.

There is so much I miss about home, the weather, the food, my friends and family and other random creature comforts... but I'm still absolutely positive that I'm where I'm supposed to be.

Things up here couldn't be better. School is going well, busy, but manageable. My field placement is intense but I am loving it so far. E and I get along wonderfully (!!) and have gotten into a great routine at home. I love the fact that she's a good cook, she's got me more invested in my health, and because of her I'm not eating saltines and pickles for lunch, and popcorn and beer for dinner anymore.

I absolutely love my friends up here. They are some of the best girls I could have asked for in terms of new friends in a new place. This past weekend we spent it shopping in Soho and then went up to the Bronx where Morgan lives and hung out up there.

And the Banker... ah... the banker. He spent the weekend in Philadelphia with some college friends. I'll see him today and I'm pumped because I am so insanely busy that I cancelled on him twice last week and I haven't seen him since last Tuesday...

So clearly I owe some much better posts or else this blog is gonna end up sucking pretty hard. But... I need to scoot, gotta get myself together and make it to the Bronx by 8.... I'm meeting with all 3 of my clients today!

Homesickness?

So I know I haven't updated in a minute, and that sucks. It's mainly because,
a) I don't have anything new to say. ya'll know I am broke, you know I need to shop, you know I need to decorate, you know I like a boy.
b) my schedule is so whack right now. Like, I'm still not sure what it is that I'm doing in New York. The School if Social Work is effing amazing, they are starting us off very slowly because in a week my whole life is will be played when I am running around the Bronx 3 times a week with my clients and trying to balance a social life (which CUSSW promotes) and my school work. I guess I should relish in this slow start and all the down time....

The other side of it is this weird thing that is happening to me from time to time. When I left home I literally thought I was going to die at the airport. SM and RSJ took E and I and me (a complete non-crier) absolutely could not lock it up. However, by the time we got to our gate I was more or less cleaned up. When I got to New York the first week I was shocked that I wasn't melting down left and right. Everything was SO confusing, couldn't figure out how to get anywhere, or where to even go. It was hot, I was over walking, etc, etc. That passed too.

The thing is there are times I find myself the most homesick. It has happened 3 times here so far and it happens directly after something uncomfortable and unhappy happens here. Example: E and I got into our first fight about 10 days in (surprised we made it that long??) By the time the evening came around and I got on the phone with my dad all I could do was revert back to the 11 year old girl of yester-year-- unable to process anything, so I went crying to Daddy "I just want to come home." Luckily Frank is a no nonsense type and the "Seshie, I can't understand you if you choose to cry instead of speak" will always snap me out of it. I suspect it's that phrase that is the underlying motivator for my insistence on maintaining emotional control.... but I digress.

Truth is, North Carolina has grown to represent a lot more than my hometown, college town and where all my friends are. It's more of a creature comfort. So much that during my first "fight" with the banker I BBM SM (who was in Charlotte) and instead of initially explaining what was wrong or asking advice I just type to her "SM, I want to come home" and that like SOS, 911, ASAP code for "old girl isn't doing to good"

So, while it may seem that I am in heaven-on-earth for a 23 year old (which, I am) There are still times it sucks. The real test for me will be knowing that I can't run home and hid out on my parents couch like I could in college. It's going to be looking whatever the discomfort is, as there will be MANY more (esp. when it gets cold here), right in the face, putting on big girl pants and kicking ass.

Who will stop the rain?

When it rains in New York, it friggin just rains. Not like the nice rains at home where its like 80 thousand degrees and the sky breaks for 5 minutes and then for the rest of the day it's too humid to breathe. Here, it becomes day time, and it's all gray. And awkwardly humid, and smelly (idk...) and then it just rains.

The part that blows hardest is that you kind of can't stop. Like there is still shit to do and places to get to. Obviously this is my transition into yet another "what should I buy when I have money (on friday!!) segment:

A solid rainboot is paramount to not having a shitty day when it's raining. The rain trench and umbrella are handled, but, for me to the boots have been an outlier.

I spoke with BKE right before I left to get her thoughts on them since she'd just spent the summer as a Brooklyn wandering, downtown loving, denim cut off wearing, hipster/scenster intern for my favorite mag on earth, W. BKE said that the Hunter rainboots are pretty much gold standard, and I def like them. But then I saw these Michael Kors ones.... and I don't know what to do.

They are more or less the same price. I feel like the Hunters have more long term capabilities, better sole, etc. And like, honestly? I'm not buying a car. Not sure why it's 7am and I am acting like it's a life or death decision between a Camry and a Corolla.

Truth is, I have hung out with The Banker every day since our first date last Wednesday and I am doing all I can to not be an asshole and gush like a stupid girl. So I'm trying to find other Fun and Exciting Topics (Insert peppy excited voice!!) So that I don't reveal how un Sesh-like your formal stone cold ice queen has become....

wtf?? I leave the south for a city where you definately need to keep your balls, and I'm all running through the field of flowers like a loser... hahaha. Whatever, suffice to say, The Banker is a good one. I win.

Here are the damn boots... so much for my guise!

**side bar: Good Luck to NC-Delta with Rush this week** Someone keep me posted.

Goodbye NC.

I'm here in the city! E and I flew out this morning and were happy in our apartment 2 hours later. we're having a very slow and lazy Sunday, mainly we made ramen and ate trail mix. E napped while I spent 3 hours trying to set up our wireless. It's up and running (thanks to all the amazing mac users who posted the how-to's for a linksys router....) So we've got internet! As of right now I'm feeling fine, surprisingly. I've had a string of emotional goodbyes, starting on Thursday with Beck and then Friday night at my good luck party. Luckily I was so SFP that I don't really remember how bummed I was. Saturday sucked because my mom and dad left for vacation, then I had goodbye dinner with DW&CD, after which I was super sad. We then went to Raleigh for Liv's goodbye parts (she's moving to New Zealand.) The icing on the cake was having SM and RSJ take me to the airport this morning. Train-wreck. I'm not big on tears, but this week I was OK with it. I feel grateful for the wonderful friends I have, and am so happy to have spent these last nights with so many amazing girls.

On an even more sentimental note--
I seriously feel like the luckiest person in the world. My friends are flat out awesome. I can't really explain what I mean, except that I'm going to miss everyone so much. I know that like, this is the best place for me to be right now. So all my sadness will be fleeting, I'm sure.

OK, thats the end of the obligatory goodbye post.

CD's Bachelorette Party.

A good friend of mine is getting married in November, and I am super pumped. CD (the friend) is like the
quintessential perfect girl. You know the type: good nice girl, super sweet. She never has that bitch-ass stank
attitude that a lot of girls have. Never trashy and dramatic. She's the kind of girl you'd want to wingman you because you're certain she'd do the job without stealing you the guy in the process. Pretty much, if CD was still single, didn't have a job, and was down for drinking cheap beers 3 nights a week,I'd want her to ride out, for sure. Ok, enough with the hardcore bramance I'm writing right now. Awk.

So when her Jack and Jill shower/Bachelorette invite was sent, I made it a point to get back down to NC use so I could make it. Looking at her pictures triggered my hazy memory and I am now 100% positive that it was a top night, and I know for a fact that she had a "sorry I partied" next morning, too. Pretty much, I love this girl to death. These 3 pictures are the before, during, and after... use your imagination to fill in the gaps for yourself. Really, only one word is needed to describe the night, and that word is Rage.

Crazy Outfits

I've described my style pretty extensively I think. The one area I have yet to elaborate on is my weekend/night life clothing choices. In a few words. In general I wear black. I like the my hemlines shorter and my necklines higher. Sequins, beading, (not embezzling or a ton of glitter) I appreciate heels, boots, and tights. I like jackets/vest/blazers, belts, chunky necklaces, dark eyeliner, pink lips, oversized clutch. However, living in NC and going out predominately in Chapel Hill/Durham/ Raleigh, made it a little impossible for me to wear what I wanted without people saying "um that is a crazy outfit." Now, I'm not insecure, I like what I like... but I just can't really stand people sweating me, or my shit. So, that is a definite pro of moving to New York. I can wear all my crazy get ups, buy a lot of even crazier stuff and be as bad as I wanna be. I'm excited.

Moving Day.

Well, It's 7:45am and I am moving TODAY. Scary. I have butterflies in my stomach mainly because this is my first big move. My mom flew up to DC yesterday, my buddy Karl and I are picking up the Uhaul at 9:30am, loading it up and driving to DC. This afternoon our professional movers are loading up, and we leave for NYC at 9am, Monday morning. I'm over the phrase "it's bittersweet, really" What does that mean? Like, bittersweet chocolate is effing nasty so I'm gonna go ahead and boycott that little saying. The truth? It is what it is. I am very sad when I think about not living here in Durham anymore, but I am thrilled about New York. Obviously I'm not going to change my mind and not go to grad school, so I think this is one of those situations where you've got to suck it up, be alright with feeling a little sad, and roll with it.

In other news: While our power will be turned on when we get there, TWC doesn't come until Wednesday, so unless some selfless person has their wireless connection unlocked, I'll be Internet-less (gasp!) for a couple days. However, knowing how my family, and especially because this moving trip is just the girls, I'm sure there Will be plenty of debacles to share.

And on a slightly more sentimental note: I really have had the best times living in Durham. I say that specifically because I said goodbye to Raleigh after graduation, and for this last year, I feel like I really adopted south-western Bull City as home. Last night before Sarah and I left for Grace's birthday party in Raleigh it hit me; "this is the last time we will get ready and ride out from my house." And while I'm not huge on tears, in theory, I could have shed a couple-- and I have a funny feeling that I just might today when Karl and I pull off.

My new full time job.

This is pretty much how my day goes. Pack box, label it, stack it. It's a little OCD, and probably totally retarded using the file boxes, but it make sense. This Right now I just have the bare minimum in the kitchen, and nothing in my office. Packing my clothes is gonna be a terror... I'll begin that mind-eff tomorrow.
